- The Teachers for Africa Program in which over 1000 American educators and teachers have served in Africa on one-year sabbaticals in universities, ministries and non-government organizations helping in teaching, updating curriculums and research activities.
- Announcements were made regarding 50,000 wells that were to be built in Africa (complete by 1997) and the institution of successful programs for the eradication of river blindness.
- OICs were spreading across Africa with the help of Christian and Muslim organizations.
