- Support of Sub-Saharan Africa Campaign (S.O.S.) has collected and distributed over $30 million worth of books, educational and relief supplies, and furniture for the children of Sub-Saharan Africa, including Benin, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa and Uganda. Supplies have been donated by churches, individuals, sororities, and publishing houses and have been transported via sea and air with the assistance of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Agency for International Development.
- Working with Ministries of Education, The Schools for Africa Program has re-habilitated and constructed over 170 schools in Southern Africa and Liberia as well as provided training to volunteer rural school committees and construction teams to increase educational opportunities.
- In partnership with the Arizona based MEDHELP Foundation, The Physicians for Africa Program, an international team of 50 board-certified physicians, nurses, therapists, pharmacists and technicians have provided 88 open heart surgeries, 57 cardiology procedures, 43 adult general surgeries, 47 pediatric general surgeries, 40 orthopedic procedures, 22 gynecological surgeries and many more heart-related services, including West Africa’s first heart bypass surgery (performed by Dr. Albert Olivier), laparoscopic, and total hip procedures. Left behind were a trained team of physicians and donated medical supplies.
- The Rev. Leon Sullivan Medical Project for Africa was also well underway, working to continue improving the health conditions in sub-Saharan Africa (for example, working to contain HIV/AIDS).
